Betty Richards passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at the age of 85. Her final days were spent comforted by her family and friends. She was the cherished wife of the late Raleigh Richards Jr. Loving mother of Sybil Cacioppo (Anthony), Raleigh Richards III (Shelley) and the late Brenda Richards. Daughter of the late Walter Cure and Marie Jourdan Cure. Sister of Marie, Cheryl, Walter, Billy, Larry and Bobby. Proud grandmother of Learryn Richards, Devin Agnelly (Taylor), Raleigh Richards IV (Brennan), Nick Cacioppo (Elizabeth) and Virginia Pace (Colby). Great grandmother of Breighdon, Noah, Reese, Avery, Raleigh V and Giovanni.
Betty was born in New Orleans, LA and spent many years as a resident of St. Bernard Parish before making her home in Baton Rouge. She embraced life through its simplest joys - moments that brought her genuine happiness and those around her even closer. She was an incredible cook, someone who showed her love through every meal she prepared. She delighted in her trips to her favorite casino, cheered passionately for LSU, and even had the unforgettable experience of attending the Super Bowl when the Saints claimed victory. Betty lived with a deep sense of compassion and purpose. She always strived to lead by example, showing kindness and care to those in need. Her dedication to others was recognized when she received the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the St. Bernard Hall of Fame - an honor she held with great pride. She shared a deep love for the St. Bernard Recreation Department and touched many kids lives with everlasting memories.
Yet above all else, Betty’s greatest joy and deepest love were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were truly her heart and soul. Her pride in them could be seen in her eyes, felt in her hugs, and in the way she spoke their names with such love and affection. Betty will be remembered for her deep loyalty to her family, her loving spirit, her laughter, and the way she so lovingly spoiled her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a pillar of strength and courage, and a beautiful example of what it means to care for others. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, April 10th from 9:00AM – 11:00AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in Betty’s memory beginning at 11:00AM. She will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
