It is with deep sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Candelaria "Candy" Lozada, who left us peacefully at the age of 91. A devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, beloved sister, and cherished friend, Candy touched the lives of all who knew her with her humor, warmth, and unwavering love for her family. She is survived by her children, Mario Contreras, Marco Contreras, Oscar Lozada and Micheal Lozada; her grandchildren, Carmen Renee, Oscar Ethan, Camron James and Gabrielle Alexis; her great grandchildren, Paisley Angel and Aurora Rose; her sister, Irene Rodriguez. Candy is preceded in death by her parents, Jesus Molina and Ismael Contreras, her siblings, Maria Carmen Molina and Emilio C. Contreras.
Born in 1934, she was the proud mother of four boys, who were the center of her world. Though she didn’t care much for cooking, she certainly loved to eat — especially when it meant spending time with her family. Her kitchen may not have seen much action, but her phone certainly did. She never missed a day without calling her only living sister, Irene often chatting multiple times a day. Staying connected with family was one of her greatest joys, and her phone calls were her way of sharing love, laughter, and life’s little updates. Candy had a passion for bingo and could often be found eagerly awaiting the next number to be called, surrounded by friends and smiles. She was also a dedicated fan of the New Orleans Saints and cheered them on faithfully from the comfort of her living room. Game days were sacred, and win or lose, she remained their loyal supporter. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and deep family bonds. Candelaria will be remembered for her lively spirit, her fierce devotion to her family, and her talent for staying connected to the people she loved most. She will be deeply missed by her sons, her sister, many extended family members, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, May 2, 2025, from 9:00 AM 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral in Candelaria’s memory beginning at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
