Carl Joseph Nettleton

Carl Joseph Nettleton passed away on July 7, 2016 following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Calhoun, parents Herbert and Jean Nettleton, sister Lana McDaniel (Terry), mother-in-law Nancy Calhoun, nieces Susan Calhoun, Leslie Calhoun, Sophia Calhoun,. Heather Calhoun, Andrea Carter, nephew Trenton McDaniel, and 2 great-nieces. Carl, using his computer knowledge, worked at several businesses, including Pelican Publishing Company. Carl also volunteered with ESRD Network 13, working to improve the lives of all dialysis patients. After losing his eyesight, his cell phone became his connection to the world and he used that technology to reach many people. Carl was a faithful member of a church wherever he lived. He held many places of responsibility at Oak Park Baptist Church from 1994 until his death, where he sang in the choir, served as a deacon, and was chairman of several committees. Carl was always eager to share his faith and to give encouragement and support to anyone whose life he touched. It was Carl’s dream that all movies would be made available to all viewers both in a theater setting and at home. He had successfully reached agreements with the film companies to allow access and with a company to provide oral descriptions for classic movies and new movies, where the descriptions are not currently available. Carl had decided that the first two movies would be Casablanca and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Carl’s foundation; B.L.I.N.D. Inc. or Blind Living is Now Doable, 1000 Burmaster Street, Gretna, LA 70053-2246, which will use the donations to create the oral descriptions. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Oak Park Baptist Church, Algiers, LA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 11, 2016 at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens; visitation from 9:30 – 11:00 AM followed by services and burial at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
