Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Stuprich Dufau Grose was reunited in Heaven with loved ones on February 14, 2022, surrounded by family at her home, after a resilient battle with cancer. Cindy lived her life to nurture, heal, and love others with her gentle spirit. She was definitely one of a kind, known to her grandchildren as “Mammy.” As the matriarch of her family, she loved to cook, but never refused seafood and a good glass of wine.
She was a graduate of Hotel Dieu School of Nursing and, after graduating, was a beloved ICU nurse at both Chalmette General Hospital and De La Ronde Hospitals, in Chalmette, Louisiana. She later received her BSN at the University of Southern Alabama. Cindy retired from nursing after working at Baton Rouge General Hospital for a brief period. Her forty years of nursing was a testament to her dedication to nurturing humanity.
She was a native of Arabi, Louisiana, but spent most of her life in Chalmette. After Hurricane Katrina, Cindy spent the remainder of her years in Gonzales. Cindy was preceded in death by her husband, the late Henry Edward “Ricky” Dufau III, and by her parents, the late Margaret and Vincent Stuprich.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Charles Jerry “Charlie” Grose, Sr.; her children, Jennifer Ann “Jenny” Dufau (Joey Babin), and Ricky Vincent Dufau (Jeni Pfeiffer Dufau); her step-children, Charles Jerry “Chuck” Grose, Jr. (Rachel Duck Grose), and Kelly Christine Grose; her grandchildren, Brooke Guttuso, Brittany Guttuso (Byson Rials), Emma Miller, Charlie Grose, Christian Miller, Elizabeth Grose, Sarah Grose, and Allison Dufau; her siblings, Rita Schaeffer Sweeney (the late Gerald Sweeney), and Vincent Stuprich (Ann Stuprich); and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and loving friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, February 18, 2022, at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. VIRTUE STREET, in Chalmette, from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. A funeral service will be held in her memory at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. Ricky Dufau, Chuck Grose, Joey Babin, Bryson Rials, Christian Miller, and Charlie Grose will have the honor of serving as pallbearers for Cindy. Whereas flowers are appreciated, donations made in Cindy’s memory to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children would be especially meaningful, as their mission was a cause dear to her heart.
