The life of Cynthia Lemoine Knecht ended tragically and much too soon on Monday, October 14th at the age of 64, but her legacy of love –for family, friends, and fun will forever be in the hearts of all who knew her. Knowing she is reunited with her beloved parents in heaven now, Gene and Sylvia Lemoine, gives some solace to all who loved Cindy, but this beautiful body and spirit will be greatly missed especially by her two beloved sons, Cody (Jessica) and DJ (Kacie) her grandchildren, Ayden, Kane, and Krue, her two brothers, Gene Lemoine (Joy) and Barry Lemoine (Katherine) and a bevy of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A true animal lover, Cindy also leaves behind a trio of four-legged children Toby, Shockey, and Zoey Sophia as well as a number of grand-dogs.
A New Orleans native, Cindy was a true ray of sunshine throughout her time in school and at the ballpark. She cherished her years growing up in New Orleans East during its Golden Years. She attended Resurrection of Our Lord Elementary School where she made lifelong friends and excelled as an athlete in multiple sports at school and at her beloved Kerry Curley Playground. Her education and athletic career continued at the Academy of Holy Angels, where she had the distinction of earning 12 letters in athletics, playing all three sports that were offered in all four of her high school years. She also excelled on stage in variety shows and on the dance floor. Cindy loved Holy Angels and the incredible friends she made there and was especially inspired by the teaching and mentorship of Sr. Cynthia Knowles who remained a friend and confidant for fifty years. After her time at the University of Lafayette, Cindy returned home to start her family and embark on her career in the banking industry. While she enjoyed her time at work, she loved nothing more than being a great mom and cheerleader for her two boys, a loving “Mimmie” to her three grandsons, and a devoted daughter to her parents. In more recent years, Cindy was an incredible and selfless caregiver to her parents, providing unconditional love and support for them during their last years. In the last year of her own life, Cindy had the courage to start a new chapter, reconnecting with old friends and making many new ones. An avid dancer and lover of live music, Cindy was very happy and free on the dance floor. In one of her last texts, she wrote. “I’m having so much fun. I feel like I'm 20 years old again.” She truly loved spending time with her kids and grandkids and was so happy that her two sons had found beautiful and strong women as partners. Cindy loved being outdoors working in her yard, playing with her dogs, and cruising to the coast in her convertible Corvette. No matter where she was - New Orleans East, Venetian Isles, Slidell, or Bay St. Louis, people were drawn to her smile and her love of laughter having fun with family and friends. Rest in peace to the “Dancing Queen.” Her family is forever grateful to all who shared their love, memories, and prayers during this tough time, and are invited to pay their respects on Friday, November 1st at the St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens. Visitation is from 11 am to 1 pm with a brief service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation in her name to Safe Harbor of St. Tammany or the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, November 1st from 11:00 AM 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral in Cynthia’s memory beginning at 1:00 PM. She will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
