Dreux Daniel Englert, age 59, died on Sunday, January 8, 2023, from heart failure, after a herculean attempt by hospital personnel to save his life. Although Dreux struggled valiantly to stay with us, the pull of the Good Lord to be with Him was much greater.
Dreux was born on May 18, 1963 to John and Verna Schmidt Englert, of New Orleans, and was the youngest of their 6 sons. Growing up in Arabi, Louisiana, Dreux attended St. Robert Bellarmine grade school, then on to Holy Cross High School, and ultimately graduated from the University of New Orleans with a degree in Graphic Design. He lived most of his life in Arabi until relocating with his wife, Karen Conner Englert, and their two daughters, Kaleigh and Karissa, to Walker, La. after their home was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina.
Aside from being a loving husband and father, ‘artistically creative’ would be Dreux’s most defining characteristic and main passion in life. Dreux constantly found ways to express his creativity, whether it was painting large incredible murals on his bedroom walls as a youngster, or earning a living creating artistic signage for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and other businesses, or his latest stint of designing kitchens and bathrooms for home builders and remodelers at Home Depot.
In addition to his wife and daughters, Dreux is survived by his 5 brothers, Brent (Marilyn), Craig (Sheila), Scott (Patricia), Rick (Paige), and Joey (Susan), his sisters-in-law, Susan Golman (John) and Janel Conner, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A special thanks to his niece, Jessica, for being such a comfort and support to the entire family throughout Dreux’s recent struggle.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, January 13th from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a Funeral Mass in Dreux’s memory beginning at 1:00PM. He will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.stbernardmemorial.com for the Englert family.
