

Dustin Peter Hoffman, age 54, died after a year long battle with cancer. Born July 6, 1971. He is survived by his parents, Dale and Linda Giroir Hoffman. Also survived by his brother Christian (Katie) and his niece and nephew, Hillary and Hudson Hoffman, who called him “Uncle Dude.” He was survived by his uncle Bruce Hoffman and aunts Jean Wild, Paula Ponamsky and Patricia Hoffman Duceung (Mike). Also survived by his cousins Timothy Hoffman, Stephanie Wild, Sheila Hauswald, Derek Ponamsky, Craig Ponamsky and numerous friends and second cousins.
Preceded in death by uncles Charles Ponamsky, Gary Wild and Daniel Hoffman Jr., and cousin Brandon Wild. He is also survived by his beloved dogs Homer and Skeetz, whom he loved dearly.
Dustin was raised in Chalmette, LA. He played sports at Vista Park, attended St. Claude Heights Elementary, Christian Brothers Academy and De La Salle High School. At De La Salle, he played JV baseball and wrestled. He graduated in 1989. Dustin was a Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Saints fan and you didn’t need to see the game to know what was going on, because he’s yelling at the TV.
Dustin worked on the Mississippi River as a Deckhand and promoted up to Tugboat Captain.He was a kind, compassionate, heart of gold, friendly and was always willing to help out. He will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a “no kill shelter” Northshore Humane Society Building Fund, 20384 Harrison Ave., Covington, LA 70443 would be appreciated.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, August 28th from 9:00AM – 11:00AM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:00AM. He will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
