

Elmer Joseph “Moe” Umbehagen Sr. passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the age of 83. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Rose Montelero Umbehagen. Loving father of Mark D. Umbehagen (Maureen), Jonathan L. Umbehagen (Lisa) and the late Elmer Jude Umbehagen. Son of the late Oscar Emil Umbehagen and Bertha A. Molero Umbehagen. Brother of Earlwin Joseph Umbehagen (Jean) and the late Oscar Joseph Umbehagen, Victory Joseph Umbehagen, Rita Broussard, Shirley Molero and Beverly Gros. Proud grandfather of Justin M. Stroemple, Mark D. Umbehagen II and Joshua M. Umbehagen. He is also survived and fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Moe was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish where he was a veteran of the Korean War where he proudly served in the Calvary with the U.S. Army. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Chalmette and retired from George W. Groetsch Wholesalers. He was well loved and will be deeply missed by all who were touched by his love, kindness, laughter and compassion. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Monday, May 4th from 9:00AM – 12:00PM, followed by a celebration of his life beginning at 12:00PM. He will be laid to rest with his wife in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
