Elmere attended St. Cecilia grammar school where she enjoyed playing cabbage ball as pitcher. She attended Francis T. Nicholls high school, graduating in 1955.
She then began her career with BellSouth. Her first role was as an Accounting and Engineering clerk. She quickly rose the ranks to the title of Forecasting Second Level assignments. She retired from AT&T in 1987 as Staff Manager.
Elmere was the first Louisianian to win a National Championship at the Women’s International Bowling Congress Tournament. In 1982 she was "on her game" and won the All Events title in St. Louis, MO. She enjoyed avid nationwide travel, especially with her bowling friends.
Elmere did not have a filter and would speak her mind freely to anyone at all times. She was active and highly independent, recently renewing her driver’s license.
She opened one of the first VHS rental stores locally in the 1980's, The Video Station. She was a lifelong owner of parakeets and enjoyed making her special brownies for family events. Elmere enjoyed all LSU sports, often recording and re-watching games. She also enjoyed watching the Saints and Pelicans play. Elmere especially enjoyed her weekly Saturday nights out with friends, which she was still doing.
Elmere was a devout parishioner of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church. She was also a member of the New Orleans Women’s Bowling Association, Greater New Orleans US Bowling Congress and the Crescent City Council Telephone Pioneers of America.
Elmere was predeceased by her parents, Charles E. Harrison, Sr. and Pauline Brown Harrison, sister, Joyce H. Wagner and twin brother Charles E. Harrison, Jr. She is survived by many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Bryan Wagner for all the help he has given me.
