

Gerald "Jerry" E. Caluda passed into Eternal Life on Friday, March 15, 2024 at the age of 85. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Pitcher Caluda, and his loving daughters, Bonnie Ann Caluda and Susan Mary Caluda.
Jerry was also preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Schremp and Angelo Caluda, his brothers, Marion L. Caluda (Daphne), Reverend Charles J. Caluda, and Daniel S. "Dan" Caluda (Mercedes).
Jerry is survived by his sisters, Roselyn Fernandez (Anthony) and Gaynel Parker (Mac), and remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Also surviving Jerry is his very dear friend, Clydine Amie.
Jerry's lifelong interest was MUSIC. While in high school, he started his first band, "Jerry Caluda's Stardusters." He studied music at LSU- playing trumpet in the LSU marching band. His last band was "The Changing Times." Jerry's bands played widely across St. Bernard (including the Our Lady of Lourdes carnival balls) and throughout the New Orleans Metropolitan Area. He also played trumpet in Pat Barberot's Orchestra and at the Bob Hope Show.
For many years, Jerry worked with his brothers, Marion and Dan, in the operation of Hi-lan Food Store. He continued in the grocery business throughout his life.
Jerry is best remembered for his devotion to his family and his passion for music.
Services for Jerry will take place at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens, 701 Virtue Street, Chalmette. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 21, from 9 AM- noon. Mass will be at noon, followed by internment in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
