John Edmond Cortes

John Edmond Cortes, a veteran with the U.S. Navy who proudly served his country, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at the age of 75. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that he had touched in some way throughout his very memorable life. He was the loving husband of 52 years to Sandra Gioe Cortes. Beloved father of Dawn Cortes and Jamie Cortes. Proud grandfather of Kiersten Cortes. Brother of Wallace Cortes Jr., Andrea Farris, Wayne Cortes (Kathy) and Gary Cortes (Valerie). Brother-in-law of Kevin Gioe (Sherie). He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Charles Cortes Sr. and Melba Manshardt Cortes and his sister-in-law Mary Lee Cortes.

John was born on March 12, 1947 in New Orleans, LA and was lifelong resident of Chalmette, LA prior to hurricane Katrina. He has since resided in Kenner, LA from 2006 – 2022. John enjoyed a long career with Exxon Mobil, following his service to our country in the U.S. Navy. He truly enjoyed life through his simple pleasures of bowling, trips to the casino and enjoying coffee with his brother and friends at Caffé Caffé. He found pleasure in the details of everyday life and cared deeply for others. He was well loved by us all and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, May 6th from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a Funeral Mass in John’s memory beginning at 1:00PM. He will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
