

Martha Maldonado Henriquez passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 16, 2024 at the age of 78. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some way throughout her very memorable life. She was the cherished wife of Luis Alberto Henriquez. Loving mother of Elsa Amaya Mims (Dr. Thomas) and Louis Henriquez (Kristy). Daughter of the late Manuela Rubi and Felix Maldonado. Sister of Manuel Maldonado, Roberto Maldonado, Felix Maldonado Jr., Jose Leonardo Funes, Miguel Angel Funez, Reino Cardenas, Tomas Cardenas and Mirian Judith Madrid. Proud grandmother of Jacqueline Mims Ponce (Larry), Christopher Thomas Mims, Kylie Elizabeth Mims, Louis Alberto Henriquez, Kaylee Rae Henriquez and Kayla Lee Henriquez. Great Grandmother of Matthew Thomas Moody, Mya Lilian Ponce, Anthony Luis Ponce. Martha is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Martha was a lively and passionate woman with a deep love for life and a commitment to her family, faith, and community. She took great joy in gardening, traveling, cooking, designing and managing real estate. Her home was filled with warmth and hospitality, where she was known for her exceptional cooking and her generous spirit. She was dedicated to making others feel welcomed and cared for, whether by preparing meals for the sick and needy or inviting new neighbors into her home.
A woman of profound faith, Martha was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Chalmette and Iglesia Bautista Getsemani, where she contributed her voice to the choir and her heart to the church community. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. Martha's love for her family was profound. She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, often taking them to church and teaching her granddaughters the art of baking. Her Christmas gatherings were a highlight of the year, bringing family and friends together in joyous celebration. Known for her strong will, good nature, and generous heart, Martha was deeply loved and respected by all who knew her. Her exceptional selflessness and nurturing spirit left an lasting mark on everyone who was touched by her kindness.
Rest in peace, dear Martha. Your life will be remembered as a testament to love, faith, and kindness. Your memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who were blessed to know you.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, August 22nd from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a service in Martha’s memory beginning at 1:00PM. She will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
