

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of S.F.C. Nelda Peterson, a devoted mother, grandmother, and proud veteran at the age of 72. She honorably served her country as a Sergeant First Class in the United States military, dedicating many years of her life to service with strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment. Her discipline and courage left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Beyond her military career, she was a woman of simple joys and deep love for her family. She was the beloved mother of one son and the cherished grandmother of one grandson, who brought immense happiness and pride to her life. She treasured every moment spent with her grandson, creating memories filled with laughter, warmth, and love. She found great joy in cheering on the Saints every Sunday, rarely missing a game and always supporting her team with enthusiasm. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed playing Joker Poker, a pastime that brought her both excitement and relaxation.
Nelda is survived by her son Stephen Peterson; her grandson, Nathan Peterson; her sister, Warrine Vucinovich. She is preceded in death by her parents, Flora Mae Luening and Warren Luening, her sister, Cheryl Cushman. Nelda will be remembered for her strength, her loyalty, her sense of humor, and the love she gave so freely to her family. Her legacy lives on through her son and grandson, who will carry her memory in their hearts forever. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 11:00AM- 1:00 PM. A funeral will begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
