O'Mara Stanley Dewhirst

O’Mara Stanley Dewhirst, a decorated veteran of the U.S. Navy who proudly served his country passed away peacefully at 4:30PM on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at the age of 95. His final days were spent surrounded by his family and friends. He was the beloved husband of the late Bernadette Limberg Dewhirst. Loving father of Trudy Albarado (Lewis), David Dewhirst (Robyn) and the late Bernadette Grelle (Thomas). Son of the late Arthur Dewhirst and Agnes O’Mara. Proud grandfather of Kevin Grelle, Brian Grelle, Sara Albarado and Teresa Jones (Scott). Great grandfather of Dalton Grelle, Orchid Hogan, Orran Hogan and Casey Jones. Brother of 13 brothers and sisters. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

O’Mara was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish where he was known as a jack-of-all-trades who could fix anything and everything, even if it wasn’t broken. He found pleasure in helping people and cared deeply for those around him. O’Mara will always be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to his family and his country, his caring and loving spirit, his laughter, and spoiling the grandchildren. He was a wonderful example of what it means to care for others and will be deeply missed by us all.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church, 2320 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA on Friday, March 25th from 10:00AM – 11:00AM, followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00AM. He will be laid to eternal rest in Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, LA.
