

Phyllis Mary Weiss, OCDS passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the age of 90. She was the beloved daughter of the late Pauline Armbruster Weiss and Joseph Louis Weiss Sr. Sister of the late Joseph Louis Weiss Jr. (husband of the late Maria Compagna), Exilda Weiss Mataya (wife of the late Wallace Mataya Sr.) and Francis Weiss Brossette (wife of the late Joseph Brossette). She is survived and fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Phyllis was a native of New Orleans, LA and a longtime resident of Chalmette, LA before settling in Carriere, MS following Hurricane Katrina. She enjoyed a long career as a N.O. Public Health Nurse for over 40 years and continued to volunteer at Chalmette Medical Center for many years. She was an active member of the Discalced Carmelite Secular Order, New Orleans Chapter for 31 years and a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church for over 50 years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church, and the Altar Society with Prince of Peace Catholic Church until Hurricane Katrina. She has since been a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Picayune, MS. She was well loved and will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal daughter, sister, aunt and a friend of many, who loved her Lord and treasured her friends and family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church, 2320 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, May 7th from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 1:00PM. She will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
