Reginald Alexis was the first of fourteen children born to the late James Sr. and Gertrude Helen (Lee) Alexis in Thibodaux, Louisiana on April 16th in the year of Our Lord 1923. Reginald accepted Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior at an early age, receiving his rudimentary training in the parochial school system of Lafourche Parish and also through regular attendance at St. Peter Baptist Church where he fondly remembered his time singing in the choir.
Reginald married Elouise Celistan in 1944. From this union they were blessed with three children, Don Allen, John Henry, and Cheryl Ann. Reginald later married Helen Marie Jones, his wife for over 48 years until her demise in 2015.
While still a young man, Reginald answered the call of duty to fight in Germany during World War II. He faithfully served his country and upon being honorably discharged on March 8, 1946, Reginald started working at the Greyhound bus station in New Orleans, Louisiana. He worked there tirelessly for many years before moving to California in 1952. Reginald was an entrepreneur and in the early 1960s he and his wife, Marie were able to realize their dream of owning their own donut shop on Filmore Street in San Francisco. Their business was met with great success until city expansion forced them out of the area. Reginald later worked for C&H Sugar Company for over 20 years, never missing a day of work, of which he was extremely proud.
After retirement, he joined a bowling league and was an avid bowler for many years. He and Marie enjoyed life and were actively involved in their community and King Solomon Baptist Church in Benicia, California until their health began to fail. After a long bout with cancer, Reginald surrendered his spirit to God and entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 18, 2018.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Don Allen, John Henry, and Carl Bruce Alexis; one daughter, Doris Mae Alexis Walker; one grandson, Troy J. Conrad, Sr; one great-grandson, Andre D.
