With the final cast of his line, Richard Albert "R.A." Schenck, age 86, passed from this life on Thursday, May 8, 2025, surrounded by the people he loved most. Richard lived as a resident of Arabi, Louisiana for 44 years and in Slidell, Louisiana for 20 years. He will be remembered for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and deep devotion to family and community.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Richard served in the Army National Guard before building a long and respected career as an electrician. He was a longtime member of IBEW Local 130 for over 60 years and lent his talents to NOLA Electric, Consolidated Electric, and Associated Hospital Services. Known for his skill and steady hands, he left a meaningful mark on the projects and people he worked with throughout his career.
Richard shared 67 loving years with his devoted wife, Lorraine D. Schenck, the love of his life. He adored her, and together they built a joyous family. His love for Lorraine was evident in every gesture, every story, and every dance they shared through the years. One of his greatest joys was being on the water with her in his cherished boat, Sweet Lorraine, which he proudly named in her honor.
Richard also found great peace outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking — activities that reflected his love of nature. Whether on the water or in his workshop, he found satisfaction in working with his hands and living simply, close to the land.
A founding member of The Nutty Buddies Carnival Club, Richard brought joy and friendship to many. His sense of humor, loyalty, and easygoing nature made him someone others gravitated toward.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Lorraine Dicharry Schenck; his four children, Lori Autin (Daryl), Lisa Wallace (Frederick), Richard A. “Rick” Schenck, Jr. (Rhonda), and Rodney Schenck (Ashley); his six grandchildren, Cali Autin (Hagen LePard), Beth Spencer (Steven), Emily Wadsworth (Max), Robert Wallace (Natalie), Rebecca Wallace, and Zachary Schenck; and his nine great-grandchildren, Caroline, Lyla, Nolan, Riley, Peyton, Ellie, Mae, Robbie, and Audrey.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Schenck and Myrtle B. Schenck.
Though he has cast off from the shore, the ripples of his life will continue to move through the lives of all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation and celebration of life in his honor at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue Street, Chalmette, LA 70043 on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
