Rita Mauer Hymel passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021. She was 88 years old. She was the cherished and devoted wife of the late Murvin Hymel, Sr.; loving mother of Murvin Hymel, Jr. of Newbern, North Carolina (Mary Ann), and Laura Hymel Billiot of Chalmette, Louisiana; grandmother of MAJ Craig R. Hymel of Hamburg, Germany (Rhiannon), SrA Ryan R. Hymel of Rammstein AFB, Germany (Lydia), Erika Billiot of Chalmette, Louisiana, and Valerie Billiot of Chalmette, Louisiana; great-grandmother of Ellis A. Hymel; and sister of Leona Lester. She also leaves behind many other relatives. Rita was a member of the St. Bernard Pistol and Rifle Range for many years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. VIRTUE STREET, in Chalmette, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. A graveside service will be held in her memory at 1:00 PM in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens, where she will be laid to rest.
