Rose Hankel Lea, age 86, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016. She was a native of New Orleans and a long-time resident of St. Bernard Parish. Following Hurricane Katrina, she relocated to Lubbock, Texas.
Mrs. Lea was the wife of the late Charles A. Lea; daughter of the late Bernard and Gertrude Hankel; mother of Leon C. Lea (Judy), Dennis R. Lea, Sr. (JoAnn) and Karen Lea Fucile (Robert); grandmother of Nicholas, Jordan, Amie, Angela, Stephanie, Suzanne, Christopher, Krystal, Samantha, Vincent, and the late Dennis, Jr.; great-grandmother of 10; sister of Alvin Hankel, Sr. and the late Gertrude Bourgeois, Marie Neeb and Bernard “Buddy” Hankel, Jr. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Prior to the storm, Mrs. Lea was a member of the St. Gerard Community for the Hearing Impaired.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 9:00 am until11:00 am. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am in the Chapel. Mrs. Lea will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
