Salvador was born in Hammond Louisiana, lived some time in New Orleans and came to call Arabi home for past 60 years. Sal was a parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Chalmette. His career spanned over fifty years with one company, Schwegmann’s Giant Supermarkets. He started as a bagger and climbed the ladder to upper corporate management positions within the company. Salvador was a remarkable man known for selfless ways and his love for his family. He found true happiness from spending time with his beloved children and grandchildren. Sal loved the simple things in life, like parades, going on family vacations, church on Sunday mornings, working in the yard, taking a walk, throwing a baseball or football with the grandkids, and sitting on the front porch with his wife Doris. Sal can often be heard whistling and during holidays he would fill the house with Elvis Christmas music. He cherished the moments when the family would gather for holidays or birthdays, weekends or just when they would stop by in the mornings or evenings. “Paw Paw” had an incredible unique bond with each of his grandchildren that will live within each one of them forever. Though he has left us, Sal leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, faith and devotion. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
