

Fred was born June 11, 1934 in Hopewell, PA, son of the late Ernest Anthony Auman and Effy Ruby (Ford) Auman. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Brian Lynn Auman.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria (Clippinger) Auman, a daughter, Sherri (Auman) Watson of Winchester, VA; a son, Robert Auman of Shippensburg, PA; two granddaughters, Stephanie (Watson) Webster of Winchester, VA and Chevelle Auman of Shippensburg, PA; three grandsons, Tyler Watson of Winchester, VA, Robbie and Benjamin Auman of Shippensburg, PA; two great-grandsons, John and Patrick Webster, and a brother, Ralph Auman of Hopewell, PA.
Fred served in the U.S. Air Force in Germany, Texas, California, and Oklahoma from 1953 to 1962. After leaving the Air Force, he returned to Pennsylvania where he worked at the American Can Company for 4 years, and PA&S Small Company (Thomas Somerville) for 32 years. Upon retiring from Thomas Somerville at age 62, he worked at Grimes Trucking in Hagerstown, MD until he was 79 years old.
Fred was a member of the Open Door Church in Chambersburg for the past 19 years. He accepted Christ as his Savior in June 1964 at the Cathedral of Tomorrow in Akron, OH with the Reverend Rex Humbard.
Fred loved to travel, read newspapers, listen to polka music, watch pro and college football, and spend time with his family. He knew no strangers, and was well-liked by everyone who met him.
He will be laid to rest at Parklawn Cemetery in Chambersburg on August 23, 2021 at 2 p.m. He will be honored with a 21-gun salute for his military service. There will be no viewing. A closed-casket service will be conducted by Pastor Mike Sanders of the Open Door Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Open Door Church, 600 Miller Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
