

Alan Dale Scherling, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and man of immense faith, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, surrounded by family and love. He was born in Torrington, Wyoming to Gwendolyn and Dale Scherling, and raised in Casper, Wyoming.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Peggy Scherling; his cherished children Dale Scherling (Tina), Juni Cruz (Rhonda), Joe Cruz (Favi) and Katie Staffeldt (Josh); his brother Larry Scherling, sister Valerie Kulhavy; uncles David Schierling and Gordon Schloatman, six precious grandchildren; and a wide circle of extended family and friends who treasured him.
A man of tenacity and diverse talents, Alan worked diligently in a variety of roles throughout his life—including land agent, police officer, EMT, rancher, bodyguard, school bus driver, chauffeur, and animal control officer. He was also a radio announcer for KGOS, where he lovingly dedicated his nightly song, Midnight Serenade, to his grandmother, Inabelle Schloatman.
After relocating to Arizona almost 50 years ago, Alan earned his real estate license and started his land selling career alongside his uncle at Cowboy Land. He enjoyed traveling, camping, country western dancing, guns, golf and above all—being a cowboy. One of the greatest adventures of his life was owning a Can Am trike and being able to ride with family, friends and the Ascendants Motorcycle Club, where he found both excitement and deep camaraderie.
Alan’s life was marked by faith and service. When reading this tribute, take comfort in knowing he prayed for you. Alan drove buses for Phoenix First Assembly, bringing children and adults in need to church services. He led Royal Rangers, coached youth soccer (often in cowboy boots), and ministered to men at the Phoenix Dream Center, offering hope and encouragement wherever he went. Most recently, he spent Sundays serving the homeless in downtown Phoenix with The Bridge FCS. He loved belonging to and being the photographer for both the U.S. Marshal’s Posse and the Sheriff’s Posse. He was so proud of his badges. Shop With a Cop was always dear to his heart. Alan loved politics and served as a Legislative District Precinct Committeeman for many years.
Alan will be remembered for his strength, generosity, and the joy and humor he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the stories he shared.

This quote defined Alan’s life. He always had an encouraging word for the downtrodden and those who had fallen on hard times that made a lifelong impact. Alan was a remarkable man who will be deeply missed.
Alan’s Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in The Prayer Pavilion at Dream City Church, 13613 N Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, Az 85022
