Amy Michele (Ellis) Velasquez was born October 9, 1970 in Phoenix, Arizona to Dianna J. (Selby) Ellis and Michael J. Ellis She grew up in Phoenix, graduated from Moon Valley High School, and also graduated from University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
Amy was always a very determined and dedicated person, even from an early age. She was the first girl in her league to play t-ball on an all boys team; the first girl in her league to play on an all boys hockey team; and she played on a boys basketball team. Amy always excelled in everything that she did.
After High School she married and had a son, Nathan (Zuccarello) Velasquez (20). She later divorced and worked full time in the accounting department of the engineering firm Coe & Van Loo Consultants where she met her husband, Jeff Velasquez (a Landscape Architect). She worked full time and put herself through college. After an exciting courtship they married in Las Vegas (an ideal location between the California and Phoenix families) in August of 2000. Amy and Jeff honeymooned in Maui and Oahu, and together they had two more children, Tyler Matthew Velasquez (11) and Ashley Brianna Velasquez (9).
Amy was a fantastic wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She loved her family with all her heart. Over the past few years she worked part time from her home office, but loved to be involved in all of the kids many activities, such as dance, girl scouts, baseball, softball, chorus, and orchestra. Amy’s favorite holiday was Thanksgiving. She loved cooking for her whole family. That was her special day!
She loved to read, knit, camp, travel, do Sudoku puzzles, and play Wii video games with the family. She also loved music and loved to go to the movies. Amy thoroughly enjoyed life with Jeff, Nathan, Tyler & Ashley - they were her life. She had many, many friends and they all loved her for her kindness, sense of humor, her warm smile and sincerity. With Amy, “what you saw was what you got”. There was nothing pretentious about her. She was true to herself and loved life. Amy also was a Christian and enjoyed reading scripture, especially the book of Matthew. She drew her strength from God and her faith.
Amy is survived by her husband and her best friend, Jeff; their children, Nathan, Tyler & Ashley; her mother Dianna Pryor and stepfather Roger Pryor of Scottsdale; her brother, Ryan Ellis and nephews Michael and Trevor Ellis of Surprise, Arizona; her sister Nicole Pryor of Phoenix, Arizona; Jeff's parents Richard and Louise Velasquez of Covina, California; Jeff's sister, Victoria Velasquez-Cook, her husband Brian Cook, and nephews Gavin, Caius and Clayton, of West Covina, California. Amy also loved the family dog, the lovely Bella Sofia Velasquez.
Our hearts are broken with her passing. God has taken her and she is at rest. But those of us left behind will miss her so very much and will look to the time when we will see her again. Amy we all love you – our beloved wife, mother, daughter, and friend. Rest in peace for now, we will always carry you in our hearts and never, ever forget you.
Until we meet again...
