Melinda, Melody and I have been friends since first grade. I remember their dad picking us up at school in his green El Camino. Melinda and Melody hated that green car!  He would drop me off at my mom’s work. And, when I was lucky he would bring me fried chicken.  He made the best fried chicken!  Thank you for all your kindness. 

Uncle David was affectionately addressed as “Ah Suk” by me and my brothers. This was a general term used for uncle in Cantonese. This was because we knew Uncle David before he married Auntie Carol. Once they were married though, Uncle David never demanded us to address him by the more appropriate term for uncle. I believe he didn’t want to create any confusion in our relationships with him.

When my brothers and I were very young, Ah Suk used to come and pick us up on either Saturday or Sunday if he didn’t have to work. He would always take us out to lunch to either Big Boy’s or McDonalds because we loved eating hamburgers and fries and drinking Coke. He never ate but only drank his coffee and smoked his cigarettes. While we ate our lunch, he would always take the opportunity to lecture us on why Chinese food was the best, and American food was no good. We never seemed to mind listening to his lecture, because we were able to eat our favorite food! The outing would end with a trip to Montgomery Ward or a similar store where we could pick out a toy!

Thank you, Ah Suk, for your generous and kind heart. We love you and will miss you dearly.

My dearest Uncle who’s also been like my father.  You will be so missed.  I will miss our FaceTime calls and just out little chats and your time spent with us through so many years.  I’m glad I got to see you once last time before the angels came for you.  You always have such a gentle smile always happy always looking to do fun stuff. I guess I get that personality side from my dad and you. You will always be in my thoughts. Love you so much. Oh by the way don’t cause to much fun when you see my dad.  Im pretty  sure you both have lots of catching up to do. I know you’ll be  so happy to  be with your wife again.
