Diana Marie Johnston Farley, age 66, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at her home in Tempe, Arizona. She was born on January 26, 1952 in West Hamlin, West Virginia to Alva Edward Johnston and Verlie Marie Woods Johnston. On February 8, 1969, she married Gary Lee Farley, her high school sweetheart and the love of her life. Even though they were married for 49 years, they had been together for 51. Together, they have three children: Gary Lee Farley Jr, Valerie Marie Farley-Yu, and Kiersten Nicole Mai; one grandchild: Ethan Jonam Mai. Diana and Gary enjoyed traveling together as well as spending time with family and friends. Together they have seen Australia, New Zealand, England, Italy, Mexico, Canada, Bahamas, and multiple US States; her favorite pastime was any location with a beach. Diana was a studious individual with a passion for learning; this empowered her to obtain her Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Marshall University, then her Master’s in Education and a second Master’s in Psychology from Northern Arizona University. She is survived by her beloved husband, Gary Farley Sr; son and daughter-in-law, Gary Farley and Jan Forbes; daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie Farley-Yu and Hyon Yu, Kiersten and Victor Mai; one grandchild, Ethan Mai; father and stepmother, Alva and Carol Johnston; sister, Jacqueline Johnston; sisters-in-law, Rhonda Johnston and Sandy Sauceda; brother and sister-in-law, John and Sandra Gilkerson; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Verlie Marie Woods Johnston; brothers, Edward and Alva Jr Johnston. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 2:00pm at Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery, 10940 East Chandler Heights Rd Chandler, AZ 85248. Officiating Diana’s services will be Dr. Paul Smith of First Baptist Church, Chandler. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Diana’s name to either Valley of the Sun or the family’s residence, 946 E. Divot Dr. Tempe, Arizona, 85283. The family welcomes attendees to their home in Tempe following services to continue memorializing Diana and to celebrate her life. Diana will be sorely missed by her community as well as her many relatives and friends.
