This is a short story of the memory of Doris Claire Banks also known as my mom. Doris was called home by the Lord on February 19th 2015 at the age of 88. She passed away at Sante in Chandler Arizona.
Doris Banks was known as a wife, mother, sister, Aunt, grandmother and a great grandmother. She was a very determined woman to live her k
life to the fullest. She attended and graduated from Minot High School in North Dakota.
Doris moved to Washington D.C. just before the war and worked as a typist for the Bureau of Personnel USN. This is where she met Chester who was in the Navy. They married shortly after the war in May of 1942. A marriage of 50 years brought on many adventures and they pursued their dreams to travel the world.
Little did Doris and Chet know the journey they were to take for the next 35 years was going  to bring much happiness and sadness. Chet started working for Amoco in 1951 and in 1962 they had their first overseas assignment. It was in Comororo Rivadiava, Argentina. First came the excitement then great sadness when Bryan was tragically killed there.
From there Doris and Chet moved on to Indonesia-Bangkok, Singapore, and Hong Kong. By 1965 Doris was now living in London, England and was very knowledgeable in different cultures and was known by Amoco as the "person to know".
As the years passed by Doris and her husband Chet lived in the Netherlands, Norway, and China just to name a few. In China she received a certificate for climbing the Great Wall of China. Russia was another trip. The best trips were to Africa for a Safari and taking a cruise on the ship Queen Elizabeth II across the ocean.  Her favorite place to live was in Europe. She enjoyed the people and the rich cultures the different countries had to offer.
At last retirement came but Doris carried on with her journeys and adventures. She went on the Atlantis Submarine in the Caribbean. The Virgin Islands brought on a snorkeling adventure. Now Doris was out of the water and into the sky experiencing a Hot Air Balloon Ride. In 1990 Doris went through the trials and tribulations to reach mile 1422, the end of the Alaska Highway at Delta Junction. During her retirement years she loved to read, shop, play cards, volunteer, travel with friends, and spend the Holidays with her family. 
Doris was attractive, fun and at times used sarcasm. She often said that was a fault of hers along with being brutally honest. I think some people would agree with statement. In 88 years Doris did what most people would dream of doing. She had endurance, strength and charisma. She lived her life to the fullest and set an example for the rest of us. GOD BLESS Mom. Christy and family I am asking God to speak through me today to you and your family. A verse that comes to mind is 2 Cor.1:3 "Praise be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of compassion and the God of all comfort."
Heavenly Father, We lift up the family and friends of Doris Claire Banks. I thank you for the years you gave them to share with her. We ask that you give them strength and courage to leave her in your care because we are confident in your promise of eternal life. 
Lord , at the moment nothing seems to be able to help the loss that is felt, hearts are broken and spirits mourn.But we know that your grace is sufficicent and we thank you, Lord, for revealing your love to us. This day, this hour, moment by moment let us choose to lean on you. For when we are at our weakest your strength is strongest. I ask Lord, that you would wrap your arms around Christy and her family, give them a peace that only you can give. May they seek you daily for comfort, support and love as they go through this time of grief. May they have the strength to meet the days ahead in the comfort of a reasonable and holy hope in the joyfull expectation of eternal life with those they love.
May they pour out their grief to you and praise you that on one glorious day all suffering will be extinguished and love has been conquered and they will walk together again. Lord you have not made us for darkness and death, but for life with you forever. Speak to us now your words of eternal life. Lift  us from anxiety and sorrow to the light and peace of your presence and set the glory of your love before us, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
 Just a couple other verses of God's word. Rom 15:13 "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
2 Cor 1:4 (God) comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."

Doris was a very special Aunt to me.  I enjoyed hearing her stories from all of her travels around the world.  Doris had an infectious laugh that brightened the room when you would hear it. I always thought Doris always carried herself with class and dignity, she had a terrific sense of humor.  I always looked forward to her visits.  I always wished she lived closer so we could see her regularly.  God Bless!

My memories of Doris as her son-in law will always be cherished . She was truly all about the last great generation of America . Doris was always prepared for any challenge she faced in life, and a born leader. I will forever remember her awesome tales of her living and traveling around the world . Her wonderful laughter will be dearly missed by all.

I have many remembrances of a truly fun loving Doris.  She was always ready for a hand of bridge, a game of gin rummy and other games of chance.  We will miss her warm happy smile.

I'll remember all the good times and laughs we shared. You are missed. Lovingly your brother,Gary.

Sisters are like stars, they brighten our lives. Doris brightened our family with her worldwide travels, adventures, and visits. We shared many joyful times as well as some sad times. She will always be loved and greatly missed. Love you sister.

Doris is going to be sadly missed by many. Doris was my Aunt, and was truly loved. My childhood was filled by many happy memories, when Doris and Chet would travel from overseas back to the USA, to visit family and friends. Doris was always thinking about others and showed her kindness and love with anyone.  My Aunt Doris was one of the smartest people I knew, and her memory will always be with me. Our sincere sympathy on Doris' passing.  She was a great neighbor, and we had great fun with her on a Panama Canal cruise several years ago. She was such a classy lady! She will be missed.

Our deepest sympathy at Doris's passing.  We bought Doris's lovely home on Flame Tree Drive in 2012 and have loved living in it for the last two winters.  We appreciate the view from the patio and the roominess inside.  It is great for our family to visit!
