Dorothy "Dixie" Lucille Smith

Dixie was born Dorothy Lucille Lauderdale on August 17, 1948 at Scott Air Force Base. This began a long tour around the world. Her favorite place was Bermuda, where she learned to swim in the ocean.

In 1962, her parents finally settled in Chandler, AZ where she made several close friends that very quickly became family. She married early and was blessed with a beautiful daughter. All throughout her life she cared for her family and friends, reaching out to those who needed her. In 1984 she found the love of her life, Scott. Dixie and Scott married in 1989.

Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Wonderful memories were created with them. That special bond will never be forgotten.

Dixie worked at Sun Valley Arthritis Center as a Pharmaceutical Research Assistant. She made many special friends there.

She was never able to get used to being taken of during her life and battle with her illness. It was with great gentleness and love that her spirit was set free.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ora and Rosemary Lauderdale. She is survived by her husband, Scott; her daughter and son in law Tammi and David Hambright; her grandchildren Joseph, Michael, and Timothy Enea and Jonathan Hambright; mother in law Carol Smith; sister in laws Karen Smith and Jill Smith; brother in law Craig Smith and sister in law Elizabeth Hanke Smith; nephews Christopher Stalling and Nathanial Smith; niece Emily Smith; lifelong special friends that were like sisters Melinda and Marsha.
