

He was born in Crown Heights Hospital in Brooklyn, New York on September 28, 1942.
Gene, as he was called by his many friends, graduated from the City University of New York School of Engineering and Architecture with a Bachelors of Chemical Engineering in 1964 and received a Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from New York University in 1968.
Gene was married to Clara Lee Van Woert (Claire) on June 9, 1968 at the Grace Baptist Church in Netcong, New Jersey.
Gene started his career as a chemical engineer in charge of a pilot plant for Allied Chemical Corporation Plastics Division located in Morristown, NJ where he worked for 17 years. He next accepted a position with Rexham Corporation and moved with the company to Charlotte, NC. Gene returned the family to New Jersey in 1985 by accepting a position with the Shotland Group in Princeton, NJ where he authored Plastics Packaging studies. Three years later he returned to Allied which was then renamed Honeywell, to finish out his engineering career.
As a retiree, he volunteered on Hillsborough Township’s Economic and Business Development Commission. He found this position the most rewarding of his career helping new businesses work through the red tape from inception to Grand Opening. The Township revived the position of Township Business Advocate for Gene which he held for 10 years until retiring to Chandler, AZ in 2016.
Gene had a passion for history, gardening and travel. He is survived by his wife Claire and their children Scott and Kristi. Scott, his wife Jeannine and their daughters Sophia (15) and Natasha (12) live in Chandler. Kristi, her husband Scott Brofman and their son Connor (14) and daughter Avery (12) live in Encino, CA. Gene’s older brother Joel and his wife Zeldie live in New York City. Additionally there are nephews Todd and Gregg and niece Lisa as well as great grandnieces Sadie and Chloe and great grandnephew Ben.
Gene will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
