Janet Loretta Hold

Janet Loretta (Alford) Hold, of Sun Lakes, passed away January 10, 2021. Born July 20, 1940 to Audry “Tootsie” (Barber) Alford and G. Warren Alford, she was big sister of Glenn Alford, and cousin to Fred Combs, who she considered her brother, both of Tempe. She was proud to call herself an Arizona Native. She was just as proud to represent Phoenix Union High School (’58) as a cheerleader, Homecoming Queen, FFA Sweetheart and ROTC Princess, as well as, an officer in several other clubs and organizations. She carried over her Coyote Pride with many years of work with the PUHS Alumni, where she would eventually reconnect with, and later marry, her classmate Ray Elms, with whom she celebrated 15 years of marriage.

She was a school secretary for many years, moving to Tempe, AZ in 1975, where she established a successful career as a Realtor for over 42 years. She was very active in the Womens’ Council of Realtors, and served as state president and national representative, and earned many honors within her profession. She was very proud of her career history, and made many lifelong friendships.

She enjoyed her community, and spent many hours volunteering at the Sun Lakes United Methodist Church, and with Neighbors Who Care.

Janet was an amazing mother, mother-in-law, and even better Grammy. She loved sports, entertaining, traveling, and anything to do with her family, immediate and extended. Known for wearing bright colors and lots of bling, she love to dance, and was always up for silly shenanigans with her friends, of whom there are too many to mention.

She is survived by her husband, Ray, of Sun Lakes, her children Mike (Nicole) Hold of West Columbia, SC and Lisa (Vince) Beemiller of Chandler, and grandchildren Holden, Harrison, and Heath Beemiller, and Hudsen Hold. She attended any event or game that she could, and maintained incredibly close relationships with each of them, and they are forever grateful for her part in their lives.

Services will be announced soon, hopefully when it is safer to gather so that her many friends and family members can celebrate her amazing life together.

Janet Hold was my oldest and dearest friend in Arizona. She was the type of person that upon meeting her for the first time, you felt like you knew her all your life. She was always there for you when you needed something and had that calming effect on people that made them feel everything would be all right. It seemed she knew everyone in Arizona and could (and would) tell you their life stories. When she started telling one of her stories she would laugh so hard she could barely finish.

Janet loved people and they loved her. She was always up for a good time and open to meeting new people and having new adventures. She and Ray made 6 trips to Maine with our group to attend our annual meeting of the "The Bar Harbor Libation Society". This group was comprised of my family and friends from up and down the east coast who enjoyed a good time as much as Janet did! Of course she immediately fit right in and became best friends with everyone in the group. When one of the group visited me in Arizona, the first thing they wanted to see was Janet and Ray! I am thankful my family and friends had the opportunity to know and love Janet the way I did.

It must have been the " luck of the Irish" that brought Janet and me together 33 years ago. I am thankful for the opportunity I had to know her and call her my friend. There will always be a void in my life without her but her memory will live on in my heart forever.

I will always miss you my friend!

Ray and family, I cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. Janet was one of the nicest people I knew. She always made me feel welcome and when I first met her, I felt like I had known her my entire life. She was so full of life and she was so kind. I am so happy I had the privilege of knowing Janet. She will truly be missed.
I will keep you all in my prayers.

I first met Janet when she and Ray joined the rest of the fun loving group in Bar Harbor for our annual celebrations. They fit right in with all the activities and shenanigans. You felt as if Janet had always come there, as if you knew her your whole life. I will miss her.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very sad time. I met Janet through my sister Maura many years ago. We would get together in Maine and again when I would visit Maura in Phoenix. She was a very special lady . She loved to cook and when I’d visit Phoenix she would invite me to dinner. She always made her special Mexican recipes that were so delicious. When I visited last February, Janet, Beave, Maura and I had tea with the Queen! She was so much fun and a wonderful person to be around. I hope that you can all find comfort knowing how special she was and remembering all the wonderful things you shared with her over the years. Love to all, Kathy

Janet never knew a stranger, she greeted everyone the same way... a smile and a hug💗. She was always up for a good time and when she told her stories I loved the way she got so tickled she could barely finish!
I knew Janet through Realty Executives and became a part of the girls group that enjoyed many good times together. She will be missed but remembered with great fondness. Prayers and love to her family who meant the world to her🙏❤️
