

John dedicated 22.8 years of his life to serving in the United States Air Force, where he proudly rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. During his distinguished career, John served around the world, living in Germany, Spain, Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand. His military service not only shaped his character but also deeply influenced the lives of those he served alongside. His commitment to duty, leadership, and service to his country earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow servicemen and women.
After his military service, John moved to Prescott, Arizona, where he met the love of his life, Irene. They shared 37 years of marriage, building a beautiful life together filled with love, adventure, and joy. Over the years, they moved to Utah, back to Arizona, across the country to Alabama, and ultimately returning to Arizona in 2011 where they settled in Sun Lakes, Arizona.
Outside of his military Career, John loved working on cars, woodworking, fishing, and scouting. He touched the lives of countless people with his wisdom, generosity, and gentle spirit. Whether through quiet moments of support or grand gestures, John left an enduring legacy of kindness, and compassion.
John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nona Blakely, and his sister, Helen White. He is survived by his wife, Irene; brother James (Ruth) Blakely, children, John Blakely, Daniel (Naomi) Blakely, Stephanie Brines, Melanie (Sean) O'Bryant, and Erik Caldwell; and grandchildren, Grant Brines, Zachary O'Bryant, and Alec Brines. John also had a large extended family of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on February 27, 2025, at 11 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building, located at 800 West Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, Arizona 85248. Following the services, John will be laid to rest with full Military Honors at 10290 E Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, Arizona, 85248.
John’s spirit lives on in the hearts of his loved ones, and he will forever be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his military service, his vibrant personality, and the deep connections he fostered throughout his life.
