Joe was born on October 8, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri to Joseph and Aileen Hendel. Joe made his mark in the East Valley when he and Linda started Hendel’s Air Conditioning in 1970. He was active in the Tempe JC’s serving a term as their President. He was a member of Chandler Rotary Club, Sun Lake Radio Controlled Aviators Club, and Sun Lakes RV Club. Some of the many charities he participated in include the Home of Hope, Habitat for Humanity, Lions Club and donating his time to restore the Arizona State Liberty Bell and providing equipment to help the less fortunate in the community unable to afford air conditioning repairs.
He loved to build, restore and collect everything from model airplanes, cameras, radios, Victrolas, bicycles, vending machines, tools and anything eccentric and eclectic he could get his hands on. Many of his collections are displayed in the Hendel’s showroom transforming it into a whimsical, fun place that reflects Joe’s personality.
He leaves behind his greatest love, his truest partner and his best friend of 47 years Linda, his five heartbroken children; Teresa Logue, Julia, Joey, Robert and Laurie Hendel, nine adored grandchildren, fourteen cherished great grandchildren and his dear sister Kate. He was the quintessential patriarch of our family in the truest sense of the word. He was our rock.
Please join us in our celebration of Joe’s life on Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 1pm to 4pm at the Ocotillo Wedgewood Banquet Center, 3751 S. Clubhouse Drive, Chandler, AZ 85248
