

Joseph Edward Hora passed away peacefully at the Renaissance Assisted Living Facility in Sun Lakes, AZ. on April 17, 2013. He was born in New York City, NY on July 20, 1917. Joe is preceded by his parents, Anastasia and Joseph Hora and his wife of 66 years, Rita Thiele. Joe was drafted in 1943 to serve in World War II with the United States Marines Corps, Fifth Div. After the war, Joe went to work for the United States Post Office and moved to New Fairfield, CT. He retired in 1973 from the U. S. Post Office after 37 years and moved to Austin, TX. Joe and Rita made their final move to Sun Lakes, AZ in 1980 to enjoy the dry, sunny Arizona weather. While there, he went back to work for the Sun Lakes Post Office and volunteered at the Sun Lakes Posse Recycling Center. He was an active officer of the Sun Lakes American Legion Post 55, and was a charter member of the East Valley Marines, Marine Corps League Detachment 1296 who honored him at the Annual Marine Birthday Ball as the oldest surviving Marine for 4 of the last 5 years. He is survived by his sister Rose Dobbs, his children Stacey and husband Robert Clifford, Randall and wife Christine Hora, Russell Hora and friend Jeri Centric; 6 grandchildren, Chad Clifford, Miranda Hora Cleary, Courtney Hora, Rebecca Hora, Joseph E. Hora II and Jessica Hora Jones; 3 great-grandchildren, Benjamin Jones, Caylin Jones and Liam Clifford.
At Joe’s request there will be no service. After cremation, Joe & Rita will be buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of AZ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the East Valley Marines Wounded Warrior Fund, P.O. Box 13192 Chandler, AZ 85248 in his memory.
