We were privileged to have Ken as an educator, coach, and administrator for many years, especially while our children were attending school at Interstate.  Ken hired me as a teacher's aide at New Virginia in the 80s, and then I was pleased to reconnect with him and Jo when I worked at Simpson College.  He had such a positive impact on so many people, and we are all blessed for it.

So sorry to hear of Ken’s passing.  I have many memories of Ken and Jo.  He and my husband, Rich Gray , were principals at I-35 schools.  Their  love of kids and sports made for  a lasting friendship.  My sincere sympathy to Jo and the family.

I so looked forward to your annual trip back to Iowa and your visit to our  Edward Jones office.  I loved hearing about Kim & Joel along with your many activities.  I always admired both you and Ken as such quality people who have given so much kindness and care to others throughout your lives. In Interstate's first year coach Ken Johnson took three rival schools and coached  I-35 to an excellent baseball team.  He not only taught us how to play the game, but also how to be better people.  He was an excellent role model and teacher.  Coach Johnson also taught me to wear my baseball socks with the high part to the back to avoid running laps.
He will be missed.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Mr. Johnson was our high school teacher, teaching History and coaching way back in our sophomore year, probably about 1958/59.  And then taught our kids.  Condolences to Ken's family.

Ken Johnson was a wonderful educator, coach, father and an even better man.  He was a fantastic person who led an exceptional life.  Ken and his family are very special to Vicki, Travis, Matt and I. Every time I hear the words Drake Relays, I think of Ken asking me if I was going to the "foot races".  He and Jerry Wetzel were true encyclopedias of sports knowledge.  Our deepest condolences to Jo, Kim, Joel, and their entire families.

I will never forget what Ken Johnson did for our family. Our son, Justin, was experiencing a really rough year in kindergarten. Ken Johnson was determined to help our son get through this difficult time in his life. He met him at the front doors every morning to walk him to class and ate lunch with him every day.  He worked with his teacher to give Justin advanced learning. What an amazing educator and kind man with a huge, loving heart. Ken will be in our family’s heart forever.

Uncle Ken was a wonderful, loving man and will be missed by all who knew him. He was always kind and encouraging to me and my young family, and I loved him and his family.

I fondly remember Coach Johnson letting me hang around the Varsity practice and shag balls etc  as I waited for my ride with Nancy  Edwards. He was always so encouraging and never missed a chance to teach instead of criticize .  He gave me my first chance at playing and I loved every minute of it. Rest in Peace..

I am so sorry to hear of Ken’s passing.  My husband, Rich Gray, was the elementary principal at I-35 when Ken was the middle school principal.  My deepest sympathy to Jo and the family.  Ken was a wonderful individual who instilled the best in his students.

Ken Johnson was a remarkable man who was respected by all who knew him. I an honored to say my life was molded by his love of education and sports. He served as Junior High Principal when I attended the New Virginia Iowa building. It was obvious those who worked for him had great respect for him. I served 3 years1 as an office helper for he and Mary Jo. God blessed him with the ability to see things farely and be an honest judge. He honored God by using his skills to serve others. During his life at I35 he molded at least 3 generations. I will always be grateful for the time he spent on my life. Heaven is better for welcoming Ken.
