From the time Margo let me into her life, mine changed. I'd never met anyone like her. She captivated me with her joy for living and her smile could light up a room; she was charismatic. We've all heard the phrase "a sparkle in her eyes" and Margo had that.

We became sisters-in-law in 1972 and she welcomed me with open arms. She was just that way. We were bonded by a last name but that bond eventually became a true friendship. I don't remember when the phone calls began but we could talk for a couple of hours! About everything! We debated and argued, laughed and shared and cried. In those talks we were wise and troubled and joyful and good listeners. She was my sister.

Like Bernie, Margo was a big part of our lives here in California and with each visit excitement reigned in anticipation of her arrival. She and Bernie came to many of our celebrations making the memories that much sweeter. She made us happier when she was around, and when she wasn't, her spirit still was.

I remember flying kites and riding the merry-go-round at Seaport Village and bronzing our legs, with toes dug in, the hot Dana Point sand. We walked miles around this big ole' town of San Diego and shared proud-mother smiles at birthdays, graduations and a wedding. And when those we loved passed on to safe hands, we cried and comforted each other and kept their memories close to our hearts.

A fond memory I have from a few years ago happened when Margo and Maureen came over for my daughter Shana's baby shower. Seems like all our Arizona neighbors want to commune with mother nature's great Pacific Ocean, so we spent a couple of hot July days doing just that.

We drove across the sky-blue bridge to Coronado and after we closed the car doors Margo realized she'd locked the keys inside! Lined up in a row, with our backs against the side of the car, we three talked and waited for Triple AAA to come rescue us. The man pulled in alongside Margo's car, then walking into view from the back end of his truck inquired, "Mrs. Gass?"

We all three turned our heads simultaneously in his direction and said, "Yes?" Then we just looked at each other and started to crack up. The guy probably thought we'd spent too much time in the sun but we actually are all "Mrs. Gass" and we responded accordingly. That set the tone for the next couple of days although when I'm with Margo or Maureen the "tone" is naturally set on "high" for smiles.

Which is why I'm so sad right now, and angry, disbelieving and feeling a little lost. Margo had so many more smiles and hugs to give and stories to live and share. I know there's a greater plan here and life offers many paths. And I know all our journeys will end some day and it was Margo's time to go. 

But why can I still hear her voice, telling me she cared?  Why does it feel like she's somewhere nearby, whispering in my ear? I know the only way I'll see her again is when I lay down and dream. And I know her spirit has become the “LIGHT” and she can no longer be seen. But Margo, if you can hear me now, please comfort me tonight. I'll need your quiet strength tomorrow, when I come to say good-by.    ~Your dear friend and sister,

My sincere condolences to the family of Margo Gass.  What a difficult situation it must be to lose two parents within a three-month period.  We are praying for you to sustain a strong sense of comfort and peace as you encounter this extraordinary journey of grief.  Thank you for sharing such a beautiful collection of photographs.  It is wonderful to see so many pictures which also include Bernie, and especially heartwarming to see the photos which include Larry, Steven, Kathy, and Tom.  Please accept my deepest sympathy and know that you are loved.

Aunt Margo,

 As I count my blessings for the special people in my life, I cannot but help to think of you…  

I thank the Lord above for the multitude of fond memories……. Trips to Kiddy Land, Storytelling on your lap, and Roller skating on the driveway….

But, most of all, I remember your love for family, friends, and poodles together with your infectious laugh that brought so much joy to others…… 

You will never be forgotten as no one can forget such a wonderful, caring, and beautiful person; a special person that gave so much to others….. 

I will miss you terribly and treasure the countless memories………

Until we see each other again, rejoice in being reunited with your loved ones, and I am sure you have already panted a big wet kiss on Winnie!

I am truly sorry for your loss!  Margo was a one of a kind!  I have so many great memories of her and times spent with your family.  I'm sure our parents are whooping it up once again!!
