Mary R. Chiappa

Chiappa, Mary R. 92 of Sun Lakes, AZ passed away on August 3, 2014. She was born in So. Plainfield, NJ on November 26, 1921. When Mary was a young girl she relocated with her parents to Greenwich Village in New York before moving uptown to the Bronx where she resided for 70 + years. There she met and married her husband of 54 years, Alfred and while raising her three children was employed at Macy’s for 25 years most notably gracing the Cosmetics Department where she welcomed her customers with her beautiful smile. Mary thoroughly enjoyed her 17 years in Sun Lakes taking advantage of as many of the clubs, outings and trips she could fit in while still spending six months of every year with her second love Arthur, in England. Mary will be fondly remembered by all who knew her for her loving, easy-going nature, her ability to make each and every one of her family members and friends feel special by never missing any of the milestones in their lives despite the long distance between them, most recently attending in May her grandson Vincent’s wedding in NY. Mary also left her mark with her amazing memory and superior card playing ability continuing to play three times a week until her most recent illness and also continued to be an active parishioner of St. Steven’s Catholic Church. Mary is predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, Alfred (1997), two grandchildren William and Eric (1977) and survived by her daughter Michele Sorensen of Ocala, FL, Raymond Chiappa (Lurleen) of Sun Lakes, Janet Ninivaggi (Frank) of the Bronx, six grandchildren, Janet (Kevin), Vincent (Gina), Christine, Rick, Daniel and Michael and three great-grandchildren, Juliana, Bryce and James. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 11th from 3 to 7 PM at Valley of the Sun Mortuary in Chandler and Funeral Mass on Tuesday, August 12th at 10 AM at St. Steven’s Catholic Church with Rosary at 9:30 AM.
