Born Oct 5, 1935, in Rock Ferry just across the River Mersey from Liverpool England. During “THE” War, she vividly remembered the blitz and her father ushering them into the shelters while he stood guard. She never liked fireworks. As a teenager she and her family moved to South-End-On-Sea outside of London where she met her future husband, the “tall” American, 5’4” Lloyd Betterton. She wasn’t sure her family would accept this short yank, but once you’ve met Lloyd you had no choice but to respect the man and Maureen’s family was no different. She married him in 1956 and as Lloyd was a member of the USAF, she became his military wife and came to America in 1958. When he retired from the Air Force in 1971, they settled in Chandler Arizona. She raised her kids and then went to work taking care of the 3-year-olds at the Epiphany Lutheran Church Nursery. There she lobbied to allow even younger kids all the way down to babies, which she personally cared for the most. She and Lloyd had four children, Debi (Dave Murray), Gary, Rick (Tasha), and Lisa (James Hudlin). She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, her parents William Haughton and Mary (Grey), two sisters (Barbara and Norma), and one grandson (Brandon Murray). She is survived by two sisters [Marge (Richard Orn) and Liz (John Snelling)] as well as her four children, 7 grandsons [Steve (Amanda), Bill (Lorrie), and Shane Murray, Cameron Betterton, Dylon, Case, and Evan Hudlin], 6 Great Grandkids [Jessica O’Conner (Chris), Trey, Trent, Ayden, and Noah Murray, and Nina Lucero] and ONE great great grandson (Grayson O’Conner).
She was a grandma to many and will be sorely missed. Rip Maureen.
Her funeral services will be held Sep 10th 11:30 AM at the Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Sun Lakes. This will be followed by an immediate interment at the Valley of the Sun Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to either the Epiphany or the Risen Savior Lutheran Churches in her name.
