Michael Lee Shanks

Michael grew up in Arlington, Virginia. He Graduated from Wakefield high school in Arlington, Virginia. Then continued on to receive an Associates of Science in Business Administration and Management from Hawaii Pacific University.

Michael bravely served his country by entering into the Marine Corps. He completed basic training at Paris Island, South Carolina. He served at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina for 4 years before re-enlisting and completing training at Quantico Marine Corp Base. His next duty station was at Camp Smith in Oahu, Hawaii.

Michael was an athlete. As a runner he completed the Honolulu Marathon, and the Marine Corp Marathon. Later in life he took up cycling – completing the Tour of Mesa, the Tour of Scottsdale and the Tour of Tucson.

He worked for TriWest Healthcare Alliance as a Consultant where he worked for the past 8 months. Prior to this role he was the Sr. Director, Data Centers for Dignity Health where he worked 2 years and 6 months. He also worked at US Foods as Sr. Director Network and IT for 3 years and 6 months. Prior to that he was the Director, Enterprise Systems at TriWest Healthcare Alliance which he worked 11 years and 1 month in that role.

Michael is survived by his mother Betty Keys Shanks; his brother Charles Robert Shanks; daughters Miranda S. Slater; Morgan Casey Lee Shanks and Trevor Michael Shanks; grandchildren Mason Shanks, Maddox Shanks, Maverick Shanks, Layton Slater and Matthew Slater.

Michael was preceded in death by his father Donald Mike Shanks; and sister Donna Lynn Shanks.

A memorial service will be held at Brookstone Methodist Church, 6274 Yadkinville Rd, Pfafftown, North Carolina, 27040 at TBD.
