Peggy Ann LaRocque was born on February 21, 1944 in Yankton, South Dakota to Russell H Powell and Shirley Frances Jackson. Peggy was raised on a farm in Springfield, South Dakota. She often talked about life on the farm and cooking with her grandparents. When Peggy was young, her family moved to Washington State, where Peggy spent most of her life. She graduated from high school and then went on to Secretarial school. She worked in Federal Civil Service for most of her life. She received numerous awards and recognitions for her outstanding service and achievements. While she was working at McChord Air Force Base, she met the love of her life, Bernard. They were married on April 23, 1979. Eight years later, to her big surprise, they were blessed with the birth of their only child, Katelin. Peggy retired from her job as a Secretary for the 62nd Support Group Commander AMC of McChord Air Force Base in 1999. Peggy and Bernard spent most of their life after retirement raising Katelin. They enjoyed many trips around the country and traveling in their Motor home. After her nephew had married, her sister, Barbara moved down to Arizona to be with her son. Peggy, Bernard, and Katelin packed up and moved down to be with their family shortly after. They have spent the past eight years in Arizona. Although Peggy didn't like the extreme Arizona heat, she enjoyed being close to her sister in their retirement community and participating in various activities with the quilting groups and sewing groups the community had to offer. Peggy thoroughly enjoyed taking care of Bernard and Katelin and the rest of the family. She looked forward to the weekends Katelin would come over and spend time with them. She enjoyed having a close relationship to her adult daughter. She excelled at being a loyal Catholic, wife, mother, sister, and friend. Peggy was taken up into Heaven to be with the Lord on October 2, 2015. She is survived by her loving husband, daughter, sister, nephew, and many close family and friends. On October 6, 2015, there will be a viewing at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Funeral home between 4:30-8pm. Services will be held at St. Steven's Roman Catholic Church on October 7, 2015. Rosary will begin at 9:15am and the funeral service is to follow. There will be a luncheon after the service and the burial will commence shortly after. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to her favorite charity, The Humane Society of the United States. Peggy was taken far too soon and will truly be missed.
