Sonny is survived by his wife of 44 years Maria, son Sonny Chavez, son Rene Chavez, daughter Vivianna Chavez, daughter Roxanna Diehl and many loving brothers, sisters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Sonny was a loving husband, a hardworking father, a sweet grandfather, a proud Democrat, and a proud American.
Sonny loved being outdoors and worked over 50 years as an irrigation farmer until his retirement. He enjoyed reading historical nonfiction and was always passionate about current events and politics. His memory was impeccable and his ability to recall historical facts was beyond impressive. Sonny was always seen with his loving wife by his side and enjoyed outings to the local Barro’s pizzeria for a cold beer and quality family time.
He was our hero as he faced challenges with the courage of a lion and he never backed down or gave up. He will always be remembered for his quiet strength and his happy personality.
