This note is very late in coming, but I hope that Seth will see it.  Sherman was married to my aunt Charlotte for many years and they had a wonderful son named Seth who is my cousin.  It has been many years since I've seen Seth, but when he visited my hometown , Grafton, North Dakota(which was the hometown of his Mom, Charlotte), it was always a great pleasure.  I enjoyed Sherman's company  whenever they visited.  I was sorry to read of his death.  Lisa Ann Berg

I’m so sad to see that my friend  has passed. He was a man’s man in so many ways. More than just a colleague in the probation department, I’ll carry his memory with me. 

Your name still comes up Sherman in many conversations about our days in the Probation Department.
Sherman had a unique and dynamic approach in reaching  and helping those in the criminal justice system turn their life’s around. Your presence lives on. 

Sherman Patterson was one of those people that I will never forget. We worked together in the Probation Department and he touched so many people in such a good way. It was always good to be in his company. He was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed.

I can't say enough about what a wonderful man he was. Always the gentleman, he offered to switch file drawers with me so I would not have to bend and hoist my heavy file drawer for case reviews. I remember going to his retirement party and the respect that he received from organizations outside of the Probation Dept for his ceaseless work with addicts. Sherman was a good buddy and  partner in the Probation Department. Everyday was filled with laughs as we shared an office for awhile and went out on  numerous escapades in the line of duty. Sherman was always the first to protect our backs and he will be sorely missed by all.

Sherman was a man among men.  A Probation Officer who was thoughtful, caring and was always professional. Sherman will be remembered for his concern for the welfare of his community and his colleagues.  He was a friend whom I admired. May the memory of him only bring smiles to his family and friends.

I was very lucky to have had the opportunity to work with and learn from Sherm.He truly was a great probation officer. We were co workers and more importantly friends I learned very early on that Sherm was one of the guys you wanted to be in the field with.So long Sherm.

I began my career in Probation in 1971, and I shared a room with Sherman.  He helped me to understand the role of Probation Officer and he was such a great role model.  I thank God for the gift of Sherman.  He was a great man and a good friend and I will always be indebted to him for the role he placed in beginning a career that I really enjoyed. Sherm was a mentor and a friend. I learned more about being a probation officer from him than anyone else. We had several adventures at work and plenty of laughs afterwards. My heart goes out to both Sherman and his family. Mike Jones Florida

I'm so glad that I had an opportunity to have known Sherman and shared his military experiences when we worked together.   Always a gentleman.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Sherman's family. He was my friend and co-worker for 20 years at the Suffolk County, NY Probation Department(I am in the gallery photo of our Unit in front of the Babylon Probation Office). Sherman was my mentor: he taught me about justice, loyalty, race, friendship, and, frankly, how a man should strive to live his life. Sherman, I hope I made you proud. My condolences go out to family of Mr. Patterson. I knew him all my life when he lived on Ice Plant Rd./Hazelwood Ave. in Westhampton Beach,NY. He was a good friend to me,Ron Hallock, and my family.

You were a fighter and a good one. You fought a good fight and now rest peacefully in your father's bossom. I am glad to have known you. Thank you for the birthday song you sang for me. Sleep well Sherman. Rest in perfect peace.
