
Susan Diane Renek (née Openshaw), age 75, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, in Chandler, Arizona. Born on February 25, 1951, in Rochester, Minnesota, Susan lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to her family, her work, and her passions.
Susan graduated from Hutchinson High School in the class of 1968 and later earned an AA from Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Throughout her life, she worked tirelessly across various careers, often balancing multiple jobs at once. She took immense pride in her role as a reservation agent for Southwest Airlines, where she dedicated 20 years of service before retiring. Her commitment and work ethic were admired by all who knew her.
Arizona held a special place in Susan’s heart. She often remarked on the beauty of the state’s sunsets and cherished the time she spent there. A devoted fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Susan loved following their games and sharing her enthusiasm with others. In addition to baseball, she enjoyed playing online games and connecting with friends old and new. In her later years, Susan found joy in going to the movies with her family and spending time with her beloved dogs.
Susan is survived by her loving children: Tauni Koch, Darrell Gora, Jason Hiley, and David Renek. She was a proud grandmother to Ashley Towns, Veronica Barnes, Jonathan Kronz, Nathan Gora, Talia Gora, Maria (Isa) Gora, Mathew Gora, Jackson Hiley, and Jillian Hiley. Her legacy also includes seven great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brothers Cal Openshaw and Mike Openshaw.
Susan was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Calvin Openshaw and Violet Blanche (Hiley) Openshaw, as well as her husband Mike Renek after 30 years of marriage.
Susan’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May her love for life and the cherished moments she shared bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.
A Funeral Service will be held on May 15, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Legacy Funeral Home-Rose Chapel 1130 S. Horne, Mesa Arizona. Light refreshments to follow.
Burial Service to follow at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery at 1:00pm
