Thomas Abbott Burt, 68, passed away on 11/11/21 of a heart attack after a brief illness. Born on June 29, 1953 at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska to parents Paul and Joanne Burt, the family settled in Broomfield, CO when Tom was in his early teens.
He went on to graduate from Colorado State University with a degree in Business which then led him to AZ in 1976 and to a successful, 45 year real estate career in the Southeast Valley.
Tom was the ultimate “handyman” and loved spending time passing that knowledge onto his son. He also loved reading, cooking, music (and dancing), traveling, donating his time to those in need and most of all hitting the ski slopes.
He was the unofficial “block watch captain” in the Chandler neighborhood he’s lived the last 26 years (the longest he’s ever lived in one place) and everyone knew him and whichever 4 legged friend he was walking at the time.
He is survived by his son, Tommy Burt (Kim), his life partner of 27 years, Laura Radmer, brother Dave in CO, sister Susan (Ron) in CO along with numerous other family members in Colorado, Iowa and Alaska. His current 4 legged friend, Charlie, misses his constant companion spoiling him and their daily walks to the park.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Roger, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and too many dear friends to count. He will be reunited to walk his favorite 4 legged buddy, Jake and all those before him.
The family owes so many for their help over the last couple of years but a special thank you to good friends Bruce & Kelly Talbert, Karen Hammell, Michael Popovich, all our fantastic neighbors, both past and present, and all of his fellowship brothers.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at AZ Community Church 9325 S. Rural Rd. at 10:00 a.m. – Tom would have wanted everyone in jeans.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to one of the local food banks or to the Jordan Thomas Foundation (www.jordanthomasfoundation.org) which supports kids affected by limb loss and limb difference.
