

Thomas Raymond Urban, long-time executive, poker player and lover of golf, passed away on April 25, 2011 at the age of 71. He was born March 17, 1940, in Hamtramck, Michigan, to Raymond and Clara Urban. Tom was a food service executive, with his career taking him from work at Greenfield Village in Michigan to the Alaska Pipeline to Saudi Arabia and Thailand and spots all over the world.
Tom is survived by his father Raymond (who turns 100 this July), his sisters Kathy Zaccagnini and Gloria Kaczmarek, children Darren Urban, Jason Urban, Jenny Tutty and Ryan Urban, and his three grandkids, Kara Adams, Alec Urban and Aric Urban. He also remained friends with his former wife, Sherry Urban, who gave support to Tom when he became sick.
In retirement, Tom played regular poker games with his friends and also taught his young grandsons the game every Sunday.
Services will be held Monday, May 2, 2011 at St. Benedict’s (16223 S. 48th St.) at 10 a.m., with interment to follow immediately at Valley of the Sun Cemetery (10940 E Chandler Heights Rd). That will be immediately followed by a reception at Grimaldi’s (1035 W Queen Creek Rd # 103, Chandler). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Valley of the Sun Hospice in Phoenix, after the Dobson House provided comfort in Tom’s final days.
