Thomas Joseph Voiland

Thomas was known to all as “Tom” or “TV”. He was born in Seattle, Washington on October 26, 1943 to Richard and Ruth Voiland. He was raised in Ballard, with two older brothers Richard and William, where he graduated from Blanchet High School. Tom served his country in the US Army as an airborne paratrooper and was stationed in Saint André de l’Eure France when he met the love of his life Suzanne Descamps. They were united in marriage on February 6, 1965 at St Alphonsus Catholic Church in Seattle.

Prior to his working career Tom studied world history and astronomy at the University of Washington.

TV loved to drive and in 1968 he began a 17 year career in the Teamsters Union working in the trucking & sales industry. Tom transitioned to a new career in the Insurance & Financial Services Industry in the mid 80s. He retired in 2008 as a General Agent for Knight of Columbus Insurance where he covered the territories of Washington, Oregon and Alaska. After retirement Tom & Suzy moved to Arizona where they enjoyed a happy social and active life.

Tom was a devout Catholic and passionate member of the Knights of Columbus. He had many interests. For fun he loved to bowl, fish, and golf. His intellectual interests were in politics, world history and geography.

Tom is survived by his wife Suzanne Voiland; children Steven (Lydia) Voiland, Christine (Robert) Fox; grandchildren Michael (Joanna) Conway, Brittney Grayson; and great-grandchildren Theo Conway, Samson Conway, Elliot Grayson.

He was a loyal family man and provider, a thoughtful and caring friend, and he exuded a fun loving enthusiasm for life. Through all the ups and downs he always sought to do the right thing. He gave his love greatly and was greatly loved.

A memorial Mass will be held for Tom on April 20th, 2023 at 10 am at St Steven’s Roman Catholic Church in Sun Lakes, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom's honor to Knights of Columbus Charities or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
