An extraordinary painter, Velma had a remarkable gift for capturing the beauty of landscapes. She cherished road trips with her husband, where they uncovered architectural treasures and delighted in sampling local cuisines. Her home was a reflection of her creativity, filled with a diverse collection of figurines that adorned every nook and cranny. Velma’s artistic flair didn't stop at painting; she was also a talented crocheter, crafting stunning Afghans and sewing many of her children's clothes during their formative years. In her later years, embroidery became her passion. An avid gardener, her backyard was a vibrant oasis, bursting with a colorful array of flowers that she lovingly tended. She had a special bond with her dogs, particularly her beloved Mudzy.
Velma’s talents extended far beyond the arts. She was profoundly involved in her children’s lives, always present and fully committed. As a dedicated community member, she served as PTA president, led Brownie and Boy Scout troops, and taught Sunday School. Whatever activities her children engaged in, Velma was right there—supportive, hands-on, and wholly invested. A woman of strong faith, she remained an active member of several non-denominational churches throughout her life.
Velma's journey through life was marked by intentionality and determination. Despite a challenging childhood, she boldly forged her own path as a teenager and never looked back. Family was her cornerstone, and she committed herself to building a life rich with love, stability, and purpose. She found a good, family-oriented partner, married him, and together they cultivated a warm and nurturing environment for their three children.
Velma is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Robert Kenneth Osborne, and her loving daughters, Susan Loken and Charlotte Bain. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Michael Brownrigg, Taylor Loken, Chris Loken, and Sierra Bain, along with her great grandchildren Layla, Avery, Kaden, Kinsley, and Delilah, as well as her step-grandchildren Addison and Sutton, and step great granddaughter Blake Demlong. Velma is also survived by her brother Tom Putman and sister-in-law Nancy Putman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Velma Moore and Thomas Putman, and her son, Philip Osborne.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Valley of the Sun Mortuary, located at 10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Valley of the Sun Cemetery.
