

CHAPIN - Alfred Leslie Clark, 88, of Chapin, SC, died Sunday July 15, 2012 at Palmetto Baptist Hospital of congestive heart disease. Al was born July 15, 1924 in Oak Hill, Ohio to John W. Clark and Nancy McLaughlin Clark. He was a World War II veteran in the 457th Field Artillery Battalion, 11th Airborne Division. He retired from civil service with the US Air Force after 30 years.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Eloise Grubb, and a son, Charles Leslie Clark. He married Pauline Herzberg Steude in 1978 and they moved to Chapin in 1980. Al was a member of the Mid-Carolina Golf Club. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Chapin, where he chaired the Cemetery Committee, served on the vestry and completed a four-year Education for Ministry course from the University of the South in 2009. He is survived by his children: Connie Creemer (Mike) of Cincinnati, Susan Miller of Centerville, OH; Phil Steude and his wife, Pam, of Chapin, SC; brother Jim Clark and his wife, Jytte, of Beavercreek, OH; grandchildren: Emily Harper, Matthew Harper, Michael Harper, Samuel Harper, Zachary Creemer, and Travis Creemer, all of Cincinnati, OH, David Raynor (Hollee) of Centerville, OH, Laura Willoughby of Baltimore, MD, Jonathan Steude (Dacia) of Columbia, Chris Steude (Candace) of Charlotte, NC; and great-grandchildren Chloe, Izobella, Liam, Jordan, Collin, Dakota and Kirsten.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 3pm at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Chapin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery Fund, 735 Old Lexington Highway, Chapin SC 29036 or to a charity of your choice.
