Ann Lee Paulis, a devoted wife and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on December 25, 2023, at the age of 97. She was born in Rock Hill, South Carolina, to the late David F. Sr. and Verna C. Lee. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1944, then met and married the love of her life, William (Bill) Paulis, an Army Air Forces trainee at Ft. Jackson, in 1945. They were married for 72 years until his death in 2017.
Ann had a long and successful career at Merrill Lynch, where she started as a stock ticker, memorizing 100's of company symbols, and rose to the senior executive level before retiring in 1986, after 40 years of service. She was known for her sharp mind, keen memory, and impeccable work ethic. Her exceptional memory remained intact until the final days, making her the unofficial family historian. She was often consulted on birthdates, wedding anniversaries, phone numbers, and the family’s history for multiple generations.
Ann and Bill built their dream lake house in November 1966, where both spent the remainder of their lives. Many family members and friends enjoyed an anniversary party, wedding, or holiday cookout at their house where Ann was a generous and gracious hostess, who always had a warm smile.
Ann was a caring friend and family member that checked obituaries in The State newspaper every day for someone she knew who passed. We hope that this obituary will reach one of Ann's relatives or a longtime friend to provide them with a fond memory.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her sister, Lynda Lee Carter; and her brother, David F. Lee, Jr. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chapin Baptist Church where Ann was a longtime member and benefited from the love and support of the church, especially during her time of need.
