Preceded in death by her husband, Peter Kendra of 51 years and her parents, Samuel and Ruth Sweeney. Born May 2, 1931 in Columbia and raised in the Shandon area, she attended all Southeast schools: AC Moore Elementary and Junior High, and graduated from Dreher High School. She attended the University of South Carolina and later graduated as a Registered Nurse from Monroe Community College in New York. She worked as an RN in Miami, FL for 20 years. After retiring, she and husband, Peter moved to Chapin in 1991. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church where she belonged to the Women’s Club and was a Lector in the church for many years. After settling in the Timberlake Community, she enjoyed golf, book club, and taught bridge to several groups. She was a lover of dogs and enjoyed the wildlife on Lake Murray.
Frances appreciated the help of many friends and neighbors over the years checking on her, bringing her meals and taking her to and from appointments. She is especially grateful to Father Dennis Willey, Pastor of Our Lady of the Lake, and the staff at her church for their thoughtfulness and care over the years. She had quite a sense of humor and she will be missed.
As Frances was a Lector at the church for many years, it is appropriate to share her favorite scripture from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Philippians, Philippians 2:5-11.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with inurnment at the church cemetery following the Mass. We will receive friends after the inurnment in St. Andrew Hall at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Frances’ beloved church, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 195 Amicks Ferry Road, Chapin, SC 29036.
