Chapin - A celebration of life for Irma Eargle Edwards, 88, will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, 11733 Broad River Rd., Chapin, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Beverly Aurand and the Rev. Dr. Derald Edwards. Family and friends will wear masks and observe social distancing guidelines. Following the burial in the church cemetery, there will be a drive-by visitation for those who wish to participate. Services will be livestreamed through the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel Facebook page and are accessible without a Facebook profile.
Irma died on December 21, 2020 due to complications of Covid-19 and a brave battle with dementia. Born in Little Mountain, she was the daughter of the late H.B. “Hub” Eargle and Mary Fulmer Eargle. Irma attended Irmo High School where she was a member of the basketball team. She was a homemaker and also worked at the Heritage at Lowman as an activities assistant for 17 years. A faithful servant of her Lord, she was a VBS and Sunday school teacher, a member of WELCA, the Lutheran Seminary Auxiliary, and MCEC’s civic organization WIRE.
Irma was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, H. Duane Edwards; sister, Roberta Wise (Gene); brother, Blanton “Bub” Eargle (Beryl), and brother-in-law, Art Bartsch. She is survived by her children, Gerald and Wanda Edwards, Derald and Vicky Edwards, Sonja and Raymond Carnaggio; grandchildren, Matt and Jessie Edwards and Tabitha Pittman; great-grandchildren, Brayden Pittman, Iris and Simon Edwards; baby girl Edwards due in February of 2021; sister, Madge Bartsch; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and life-long best friend, Lauretta O’Keeffe. She was a true force of nature and was loved by many.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (Attn: SC Gift Processing, 4600 Park Rd., Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209) or to Lutheran Homes of South Carolina Foundation (300 Ministry Dr., Irmo, SC 29063).
