Jane Boland Ramsey, 90, of Chapin, SC, widow of Don Arvid Ramsey, passed away Friday, February 27, 2026, from complications of stomach cancer following three months on hospice care in the home of her daughter, LaDona.
Born in Prosperity, SC, on January 30, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Drucilla Lindler Boland and Dewey F. Boland. She grew up in Chapin, SC, alongside her sisters, Rosalyn Cumalander (Nick) and Linda Johnston (Jim), as well as her brother, Kim Boland (Susan). She attended Chapin Elementary School and Chapin High School. She enjoyed playing girls’ basketball and was captain of her high school team.
She worked for Eckerd Drug Store in Columbia as a soda jerk during high school. She started her career with Southern Bell in 1953 and worked in various positions. A treasured memory from her early career was earning the title of Miss Southern Bell. She retired from AT&T (formerly Southern Bell) in 1984 after 31 years of service.
Following about five years of leisure, Jane accepted a position with the United States Postal Service as Postmaster Relief at White Rock, SC. She worked there and at other nearby post offices for twelve years, making many special friends from the surrounding community and Lowman Home.
Jane was a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church where she and Don got married in 1962. Over the years, she served as a Vacation Bible School teacher, first and second grade Sunday School teacher, church office volunteer, and Financial Secretary. She was a member of the funeral choir and enjoyed the Leisure Timers. Several of her long-time friends are still counted among the congregation.
Jane’s survivors include her loving daughter, LaDona Ramsey Shaver (Alvin) of Chapin, SC; granddaughter, Marley Shaver of Charlotte, NC; grandson, Corey Shaver (Marigordon), and great granddaughter, Priscilla Shaver of Macon, GA; brother, Kim Boland (Susan) of Chapin, SC; brother-in-law, Jim Johnston, of West Columbia, SC; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at the Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church Cemetery, Chapin, SC. The service will be livestreamed on the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Chapin Chapel Facebook page. Visitation with the family will follow the service at graveside.

Jane’s family is grateful for the caregivers from Right at Home (Lamettress and Mattie) for their assistance during this difficult time as well as nurses from Agape Care Hospice (especially Debra and Kim).
